Description
The Emanons, Inc. are hosting a walk accross the Woodrow Wilson Bridge to celebrate and communicate the passing of the Public Safety - Wellness Checks - Requirements Gabriel's Law. Come out and walk with us starting from the MD National Capital Park Police Substation across from the MGM. The Emanon Inc. organization was proud to stand with Delegate Jamila Wood, our Emanon sister a fierce advocate for justice and equality. Faced with the tragic loss of her son, Gabriel, due to the inadequate jurisdictional policy in place to request an out of state welfare check; Delegate Jamila Woods, D-Prince George’s County introduced the bill known as Gabriel's Law requiring law enforcement agencies and medical services such as fire, rescue, or emergency medical services, conduct or request a wellness check in response to a "qualified request", without unreasonable delay. A "qualified request" is inclusive of any oral or written requests that include credible information regarding a life-threatening concern. If the person in question is not within the jurisdiction of the law enforcement agency or medical service, they are required to request the relevant agency to conduct the check.
